Join us for an exclusive guided tour of the Drumthwacket Estate, the official residence of the governor of New Jersey in Princeton. The site has the potential to serve as a home, welcoming meeting place, and model of public estate management.

On the field trip, we will explore the complex history of the Drumthwacket Estate and Gardens. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the site will offer an opportunity to critically discuss approaches to historic reconstruction, renovation, and preservation.

The event will include a guided tour of the Drumthwacket Estate and Gardens. Please wear comfortable shoes.

Garden management of a representational historic property at the Drumthwacket Gardens

Participants will learn about the complex history of Drumthwacket Gardens from its creation as a bucolic landscape in the 19th century, building of the Italianate Garden in 1905, decline and reconstruction in the late 20th century. The tour will include critical discussions of the approaches to historic reconstruction, renovation, and preservation. We will evaluate the value of a historic site as a showcase of sustainable storm water management, and reflect on the opportunities of engaging the public through the Mercer County Master Gardener Program.
