Project Description
This small site design created a temporary urban gathering space in the town center. Intentionally collaborative in its design and construction, the parklet enlivens a dark corner where people rarely linger. Many collaborators (local businesses, a national energy corporation, the Arts Council, University faculty, an architect, and two landscape architects) contributed to the build out; the process of collective building created community. The parklet is a place for active learning about energy generation. And it is a place to sit and enjoy the vibrant street life in Princeton.
The Princeton Energy Parklet, albeit a small urban intervention, creates a park. It encourages learning about energy through play: this shared play and learning experience builds community in a public downtown space. We hope the Princeton Energy Parklet serves as a model for other cities and towns in New Jersey.
