Project Description

Philadelphia’s historic Navy Shipyard was fully decommissioned in 1998. The 1,200-acre naval base is currently being transformed into a vibrant mixed-use business community. The redevelopment of the Navy Yard provides a wonderful opportunity for Philadelphia to gain an exciting new neighborhood and access to additional public amenities. Since 2005, there has been considerable new and renovated building construction as well as infrastructure improvements for parks, streetscapes and open space. In 2013, League Island Park was created as one of the first new public parks. Located on a 2.5-acre site in the historic Town Center, the park fronts several classical naval architecture buildings, the recently completed Penn State Consortium of Building Energy Innovation, and a new research campus currently under construction.
