Project Description
Project Narrative: In 1960 The LeFrak Organization purchased 32 acres for development of 20 high rise buildings containing 5,000 affordable apartments. Some 50 years later after a period of decline, the Owner hired the landscape architect to transform the open spaces and parking lots as well as to address stormwater issues that have resulted in building flooding. The project was led by the landscape architect; it began as a master plan and carried through construction. The primary challenge was to change the mindset of the Owner who had incrementally fenced off many spaces, severing connectivity through the property and had allowed the landscape and amenities to fall into disrepair. Our first initiative was to simply remove all fences. Thereafter, based on this modest success, we began phased improvements throughout the property.
