The project involved the study of 13 sites within the Borough of Highlands. Each site was grouped into a phase. Phase 1 sites were largely parking areas and improvements focused on creating a comprehensive wayfinding/ signage plan, improved pedestrian safety, and introduction of green infrastructure systems to alleviate flooding. Phase 2 involved waterfront sites that are planned to be modernized to be more attractive and resilient. The design interventions are low impact and restorative, intending to improve safety and manage stormwater. Open spaces were improved to better manage crowds. Phase 3 is a 1.5 mile long bluff. The slopes are planned to be stabilized through native planting, gabion walls, and stormwater management interventions.
