Join NJASLA for a guided tour of East Newark Riverfront!
Advocacy Day is a day for us to gather with local and state officials to raise awareness of our profession! When landscape architects educate and connect with policymakers, understanding of and appreciation for the profession grows. With greater political awareness comes new opportunities. So to show them the breadth of our work, we are teaming up with AECOM to examine their newly-opened East Newark Riverfront Park.
East Newark Riverfront Park transforms a former industrial wharf into a vibrant, accessible green oasis on the banks of the Passaic River. Formerly a brownfield, the site serves as East Newark’s first and only waterfront park and expands its parkland from 1% to 8% of the borough’s land area. This project is a case study of how social uplift, environmental justice, and ecological restoration can guide design in small municipalities. Its landscape architects and designers will walk attendees through the park’s nature-based strategies and its integration of resilient infrastructure, habitat restoration, and community programming.
