Project Description

Of Borrowers and Bricolage is a thesis project that explores the material quality of found objects as an alternative and additive mapping technique.

The goal is to discover how an assemblage of objet trouvés has the potential to enhance our understanding of the anthropogenic, natural, and ecological changes at the Abbott Farm Marshlands in Hamilton Township, New Jersey. With a rich history and even richer ecosystem, the Abbott Farm Marshlands houses not only a mosaic of flora and fauna but remnants of a former amusement park, recreational park, and archeological excavation sites.

Through a curated art experience, three installations made of objects found around the marsh are meant to elicit an emotional connection to the landscape that is often lost during the typical mapping process. Each installation calls its local visitors to recontextualize themselves in their space and have the potential to enhance a visitor’s understanding of the marsh’s value.
