Project Description

The Garden Walk modifies the proposed Campus Walk from the Rutgers 2030 Master Plan. It connects existing natural resources and living labs on the Cook/Douglass campus. It promotes the living lab initiative at the University which encourages the use of outdoor classrooms. Interstitial spaces were used to designate potential areas for future living lab gardens. These can be installed by students to promote ownership and stewardship. Gardens will also address problems including stormwater management and carbon sequestration. The research gathered from these labs will be disseminated into the community — reinforcing Rutgers’ role as the land grant university of New Jersey.
