Project Description
The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy would have faced difficulty operating the initial Heart of the Park design, but our firm’s workshop planning process and maintenance manual laid the groundwork for successful long-term operations. Through focused design revisions, the planning efforts led the Conservancy to invest in revenue generating amenities, allocate operating reserve funding, and reduce overall construction and long-term maintenance costs. The seamless process of design and operations and maintenance planning enabled the Conservancy to implement sustainable park management from the outset. Since its 2016 opening, the park has become an iconic destination with its annual visitation more than doubling in the first year of operation.
